End of Q1
(Costume Day on Halloween. Huge thanks to Betty Flinstone, aka Terah, for bringing big school spirit as she MC’d the fashion show/costume contest.)

Dear Friends,
Students ended the quarter with positivity, strength and engagement. What a great school year we are into!
Parents can also join us for two Nora events. On Thursday, November 7, we will have the second speaker in our Parent Education Series. At 7:00, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Julie Baron will speak with us about raising emotionally healthy and accountable teens.
For an in-person parent event, Marcia will host a Parent Social. This evening is offered to parents to meet with one another over a glass of wine or soda, and a piece of pizza. Marcia gets the evening started, but this is an evening you bring to each other. Talk and engage about your kids, Nora School, and our community. Depending on what we know about the election outcome, we will certainly have a lot to talk about.
Speaking of the election, Nora will be closed on Election Day this year. We will return to classes on Wednesday, November 6. We have spent the past weeks learning and reviewing electoral processes, government’s purposes, and practical discussion techniques. In Morning Meeting we are actively preparing for how we can constructively and kindly engage with each other in times of uncertainty and across difference.
As a socially conscious school, we place emphasis on the importance of civic engagement and the power it gives us to shape our community. And too, we practice how to speak and listen respectfully. We use our mindfulness practice to bring calm and attention to how we are dong, and to take time to reflect on how we want to proceed forward.
On Wednesday, we will have opportunities available to students and staff for conversation, support, reflection, or simply carrying on as normal. Each of us will bring our unique point of view to a community that cares about you.
Peace,
Mara
