Our Academic & Social Engagement

Dear Friends,

School is that wonderful combination of both academic and social engagement: This week the science classes were experimenting and observing. The Comprehensive Writing Class published their writing blog (https://norawriting.livejournal.com/ ) and the Student Government put on a show with a wonderful Homecoming and a Halloween Party (see photos below). These types of activities push us to be at our best as we wind up the first quarter of the school year.

Parents, too, can continue their engagement in our community at our next Parent Education Series Event. Wednesday evening Dr. Hendrie Weisinger will be speaking on The Unlikely Art of Parental Pressure. This live, virtual presentation addresses one of the parenting dilemmas: the ‘art’ of promoting your family values and goals for your student and at the same time, avoiding stressful results or pushing them too far.  In other words, instead of “How much pressure?”, you could be thinking “How best do I apply  pressure?”

Next week there are no classes on Monday. The second quarter begins on Tuesday and Wednesday is Community Service Day. Some students joined new groups this week, so be sure you know whether to bring a Metro Card. We look forward to the work we do providing food, transcription, knitted goods and warehouse work. Please dress appropriately for the work we do.

I hope you enjoy some of the fun photos from our week together.

Peace,

Mara
