Class Retreats
Dear Friends,
Thursday is the first day of our Class Retreats. These days are meant to introduce new challenges, experiences, and learning in a setting outside of the school building. We take this opportunity to get to know those in their graduating class better; meet someone different from yourself and see them as a part of your community, including your teachers! I am grateful to all the advisors for working with such care to plan, arrange, and lead these adventures.
Seniors-Two days of college visits: McDaniel, Loyola and American University. Tour different campuses, eat in college dining halls, explore Baltimore and DC.
Juniors-High Ropes Adventure Park, overnight camping in Catoctin Mountain park. Challenge by choice and home cooking by the staff!
Sophomores-Social Justice travel to Cambridge, MD exploring the life and legacy of Harriet Tubman. Kayaking adventure, dinner out, and a day at the museums in DC.
Freshpeople-Exploring outer space and art at the Artechouse in DC and celebrating October in class meetings.
Every Advisory returns at a different time of day. Please take note of letters from Advisors with retreat details.
We will also have our first soccer game on Tuesday. Come cheer on the team as we compete with Friends Meeting School at our home field on Houston Street. Congratulations Chip (Class of ‘24) on your selection as Team Captain.
This week we lifted up NASA astronaut Francisco Rubio and film director Andres Muschietti. The Student Government sold homemade tamales at lunch today, too. Delicioso!
Please be ready for PSAT testing and Indigenous Peoples’ Holiday coming up soon.
Peace,
Mara
