Retreat Week, Parent Education Series and PSAT
October 8, 2021
Dear Friends,
As we approach the end of the quarter, academic readiness rises to the top of our checklists. Students are presenting projects, writing papers and preparing for tests and quizzes that each have separate due dates. Using any kind of calendar at these times can be helpful if feeling overwhelmed. You can use the Nora School Agenda, provided to each student at the beginning of the year, to have a physical view of when each assignment is due, and then take satisfaction by crossing them out when done. Google Calendar has great checklist tools too, either with the Reminders tool or the Tasks tool. Both allow you to mark assignments as done as you work through each item. Google Classroom assignments also automatically post to student’s Google Calendar. Using the right tool can build stronger study skills.
Wednesday is a different kind of preparation; standardized test taking practice. All students in Grades 9-11 will sit for the PSAT test on Wednesday morning. Please come prepared with a good night’s sleep, having eaten breakfast, pencils, and a willingness to be open to a standardized measurement of academic readiness. Junior and Sophomore tests will be scored.
We do Parent Education too! Below you can see a schedule of the marvelous speakers that are presenting at our Parent Education Series this year. Many thanks to Marcia Miller for organizing this important annual series, and thanks too to all our speakers who volunteer their time with us! Wednesday evening is our first event. Please join us on Zoom to learn some best practices for raising teenagers. These events are free and open to the public.
We are really looking forward to our Class Retreats next week which I wrote about last week, should you need a reminder of who’s going where, when.
Peace,
Mara
