Taking it outside
Dear Friends,
Today the students in our art classes went with their art and music teachers downtown to the Hirshhorn and National Art Galleries. What an opportunity to take in the diverse contributions of artists like Kehinde Wiley (see his portrait of LL Cool J below), Laurie Anderson (American musician and sculptor, multi-media installation) and Toyin Ojih Odutola (Nigerian-American visual artist, cycle of drawings). Although Wiley’s famous portrait of Barack Obama is traveling around the world and not at the gallery today, there is still so much to see: A feast for the eyes and mind.
Here at school our own artists were busy in the darkroom developing their photos, walking the neighborhood to practice their Spanish outdoors, and welcoming 8th graders looking at Nora for next year. We will have a Virtual Open House on Thursday at 9:15am for other families interested in applying to Nora for next year. Please feel free to share our Facebook Event with your friends.
Congratulations to our students on the Honor Roll. They are invited to lunch on Thursday at Vicino’s. Additionally, on Thursday evening we will take the basketball team to dinner after our game away at Friends Meeting School.
On this weekend before Valentine’s’ Day, I hope you know how much you are loved. It is so special to be in community with all of you. This week the SGA has been selling candy grams so we can send kind messages to one another on Monday. And especially notable is the way the students are hanging out and interacting so much more since our return from break. It is really nice to see new friendships beginning and old friendships strengthening as we recognize and recover from the impact this Long Pandemic has had on all of us.
Happy Valentine’s Day to you all.
In peace and with love,
Mara
