Advisory and Overtime

Sophomore Advisory with teachers Nisaa, Chris and Darrell

Dear Friends,

After four more days of classes we are into the swing of our academic schedule. One part of our regular weekly schedule is gathering for Advisory on Thursday afternoons. Students are in groups according to their year of graduation and gather with their Advisors. There are three advisors for each advisory except for 9th Grade Advisory which has two. Together they discuss in more detail the upcoming events of the week and check in on how the academic part of their days is going. This week students signed into FACTS Family Portal and looked through the information there, which includes their daily schedule, their updated grades in those classes, and a school directory, to name a few. They also talked about how Overtime will work starting on Tuesday.

Although teachers are available to all students at the end of the day from 2:45-3:15, students in Overtime are required to stay for that period to meet with teachers in the classes where they are falling behind. Students will be notified on Monday of any class they are in where their grade has fallen below a 70.

Both Advisory and Overtime are meant to support students for how best to be successful in their classes. Teachers and advisors can help with answering questions, strategizing new ways to keep track of assignments, and all manner of areas that support executive function. Use it well!

Earlier this week I sent an email outlining the details of our Back To School Night Potluck Dinner and Activities. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding what to bring for dinner or how to find your child’s schedule of classes. We look forward to sharing the details of what it means to be in the swing of our school year with you!

Peace,

Mara
