Back To School Night Notes
Dear Friends,
Thank you for all the delicious food for our Community Potluck for Back To School Night. It was so good to SEE you after our long isolation. Nora worked hard the past two years to maintain as much of our in-person programming as possible, and parents were the last to see the change! Thank you for taking the time to connect with us. And we enjoyed the leftovers very much this week.
As you know, teachers at Nora are more than a teacher. We are grateful for the respect they bring to their subject, their engagement with our community and for supporting our school culture and program. When students engage with our teachers our hope is that they find purpose and support for their learning.
Should you feel your teen is unclear of how to progress academically, please reach out to the teacher first. Every student also has an advisor (see Advisors below) who checks in on their academic progress week by week . Should you need support beyond that or a schedule change, please contact our Academic Dean, Christina Mullen. We are all part of the team that supports each student at Nora.
Some new information we shared at BTSN involved accessing FACTS Family Portal. You should be able to see your child’s schedule, grades to date, family directory and more.
We also reminded families that we will be traveling on Class Retreats on October 13 and 14. The Junior Class will be away overnight, so any 11th grader that needs medication outside of school hours needs to begin gathering the necessary Doctor’s Orders (on our website or click norapride.org/) for the retreats. Advisors will send out itineraries for the two days of activities as they complete their planning.
Nora School holds a Virtual Open House for Prospective Families the third Thursday of every month at 9:15AM. If you know of families that might be interested in joining Nora, please invite them. They can contact marcia@nora-school for more information or see our website. Small schools have less visibility, so word of mouth recommendations can make a world of difference to a family. Thank you.
This month we are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month in morning meeting. Today Arkadi shared the story of inventor Guillermo Gonzales Camarena who invented color television. We look forward to hearing about and lifting up others throughout the month.
Happy Weekend.
Peace,
Mara
