Finding our way through…
Dear Friends,
Today was a hard day as our world whirls and swirls with tragedy and grief over mass shootings, the anniversary of George Floyd’s murder, war, our personal losses and our ever-present pandemic. It was such a comfort to gather during Morning Meeting to talk and share just a little about about the heaviness and helplessness we might be feeling. This was time we took to be in community with one another— to hold silence, to speak what we needed to, to hear ideas for future action, to shed tears or to just sit. Additionally, some classes talked in more detail about what happened at Robb Elementary School, to review some of President Biden’s address to the nation, and Steve Kerr’s heartfelt response. Each moment helped us forge connection to one another.
Tomorrow, Liann, our school counselor, will be with us, and we will meet in our Advisory groups. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you are seeking more support.
After the long Holiday Weekend we return for a few more days of classes to prepare for Exam Week which begins on June 6. Please see below for the exam schedule and study tips.
Right before exams, on Friday, June 3, Seniors will have an opportunity to go to Six Flags Adventure Park for the day, and Juniors will be taking a field trip together to visit The George Washington University. Freshman and Sophomores will have a full day of classes.
I cannot express enough thanks to all the teachers at Nora who planned and taught and managed our fantastic Intersession Program. I will speak in more depth about all we uncovered and discovered in the Annual Newsletter which is published each summer. This program of experiential learning is a cornerstone of our curriculum. The week provided memories and experiences that will last a lifetime.
Truly working for peace,
Mara
